I take conscious breaks for myself 'cause I like to rejuvenate and get my creative juices flowing. I also like to take my time with my creativity; I think it's important.
Lately, I've been in the creation phase... working hard to write better lyrics and melodies each time. I'm learning that the creation phase cannot be rushed. It's time that needs to be used wisely, and the vibe has to be right.
I don't believe in wasting life in an unfulfilling 9-5 job. I don't believe in not using the gifts God gave me. I will act on my dream. I love the questions he prompts...super motivating!
I think every individual has his or her own power, and it's a matter of working, taking time and defining what that power is. This week I'm taking the time to study the work of Jill Scott, although I have been listening to her most of my life. You may hear some of her influence on my music in my original songs like, "Bring Me In." Her voice is one of my favorites, along with Whitney Houston. Watching her story inspires me, because she was so sure of what she wanted to be, and she went after it.
I really prefer the actual experience of being onstage and living the character from beginning to end with the energy of the audience. There's nothing that beats that feeling... It's something about being on stage! #LoveIt
Shots Fired is a great show! I love how relevant it is to what's going on in our justice system today. They are true artists, sharing, and hoping to create discussions within our community. I love seeing a TV show like this that's actually saying something, and is very entertaining!
Here is my wish and my desire and my pledge as well: that we remember our true nature and our womanhood. That we own and know that we are more than our bodies and yet our bodies are these sacred, beautiful, rhythmic houses for us. |
